HISTORY OF DUNKARD SETTLEMENT AND OTHER CONNECTIONS DISCUSSED
AT FALL MEETING
The Fall Meeting of the Blooming Grove Historical Society was held Sunday,
September 28, 2008 in the historic Meeting House. President Charles
Springman led devotions.
The Rev. Larry K. Waltz and Mr. Greg A. Thomas presented the program,
"Reviewing the History of the Dunkard Settlement of Lycoming County." They
offered dialog around the concept of the "Dunkard," the Harmonist/Old
Economy (Pittsburgh) connection, the "Meetinghouse" and preachers and
leaders of the era as well as extant churches ministering today.

2008 Spring Meeting: June 1, 2008
MEMORABILIA DISPLAYED
AT ANNUAL SPRING MEETING
The spring meeting of
the Blooming Grove Historical Society was held Sunday June 1, 2008 in
the historic meetinghouse. The program, "What is It?" showcased many
items currently on display in the Blooming Grove museum. Mr. Charles
Springman, Rev. Larry Waltz, Mr. Greg Thomas, Mrs. Debbie Wallace and
Mr. Harold Mosteller provided an educational and entertaining insight
into many household and farming artifacts that currently reside in the
museum. Mr. Mosteller donated a buggy blanket to the museum.
The museum and
meetinghouse will be open every Sunday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM through
September.
The fall meeting is
scheduled for Sunday, September 28, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the meetinghouse.

The Blooming Grove Historical
Society held its fall meeting on September 30, 2007 in the historic Dunkard
meeting house in Hepburn Township. Col. Paul K. Winner, President gave
devotions.
Mrs. Marybeth Carpenter and Rev. Larry K. Waltz were elected to serve
another three-year term as Board of Directors.
Helen Mosteller Hoy presented the Historical Society with artifacts from
the Mosteller farm and gave a brief history of the items. Rev. Larry K. Waltz
accepted the donations on behalf of the society.
Bruce and Lucy Henry who gave a history of the Appalachian mountain
dulcimer, a folk instrument from the 1800’s, provided entertainment. They
played several selections using many different styles of the instrument. They
also sang folk songs and hymns using the instruments.

Spring Meeting - June 3,
2007
Blooming Grove Historical Society held its Spring Meeting on Sunday June 3,
2007 in the historic meeting house. Paul K. Winner, President
welcomed everyone. The Rev. Mark Mahserjian-Smith of the
Hepburn Baptist Church led devotions. Board member Carol
Waltz accepted a gift of the Gottlieb Waltz genealogy and
family history from Mrs. Rosalie Waltz Connelley. This will
be on display in the genealogy center of the museum.
Richard and Miriam Mix, local historians presented a slide program on historic
landmarks and historical facts of the Williamsport area.
The meeting adjourned with the singing of "Blest Be the Ties
that Bind."
The museum is open every Sunday from 2PM to 5PM
through September. Other times can be arranged by contacting one of the board
members.

2006 Spring Meeting of the
Blooming Grove Historical Society |
The Spring Meeting of the Blooming Grove Historical Society was held
June 4, 2006 at the meeting house. President Paul K. Winner presided. The
devotions was conducted by Rev. James Sunderland, pastor of Balls Mills United
Methodist Church. Mr. Donald Robinson, President of the Blooming Grove Cemetery
Association was guest speaker. He spoke on the history of the Blooming Grove
Cemetery, the Cemetery Association and gave a property overview. Jeff Kiess also
spoke on future plans of the cemetery.
Mr. Bill Sober spoke on his cemetery findings and its importance in
genealogical research.
Mr. Harold Bower gave the history of a lye stone that was found on his
property (part of the original Blooming Grove acres) and donated it to the
Blooming Grove museum.
The museum was open after the meeting.
